Empowering Healthier Lifestyles for Students
Nourish 2 Flourish is an exciting six-week campaign designed to inspire and support students in making healthier food choices. This initiative aims to empower students to prioritise their health and well-being, even on a budget: Offering simple, healthy swaps for everyday meals and snacks.
Each week, participants will receive:

Week one we will look at the popular Spagehtti Bolognese, How to make it, how much does it cost, how does the home made version compare to a pre-made ready meal, What else can you make with a batch of bolognese sause.
Plus we will investigate why we need Zinc and where you can get it.

Spagbol Saturday
Saturday 25th, as part of the Global Cafe, in the Hub from 1pm - 4pm
Join the Well Crew uncovering the deliciousness of Spaghettin Bolognese. Not only is the homemade version cheaper you know what has gone into it.
If you make a full lot of the bolognese sauce, you can get 4 days dinners;
why not mix it up with these suggestions.
1) Add kidney beans and sices and you have Chilli Con Carne and add rice or garlic bread
2) to with mash for a cottage pie
3) Wrap in a flour tortilla with some spices and cheese and lettuce and you have a burrito.

Recipe:
INGREDIENTS
-
2 tbsp olive oil
-
400 g/ 14 oz beef mince
-
1 onion diced
-
2 garlic cloves, chopped
-
100 g/ 3½oz carrot, grated
-
2 x 400g tins of chopped tomatoes
-
400ml/14fl oz stock (made from stock cube. Ideally beef, but any will do)
-
400g/14oz dried spaghetti
-
Salt and pepper
-
Serve with grated cheese of your choice!
INSTRUCTIONS
1.Brown the Beef:
-
Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a large pan.
-
Add 400g/14 oz beef mince, season with salt & pepper, and cook until browned.
-
Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
2.Cook the Veggies:
-
Add another tbsp of oil to the same pan.
-
Sauté 1 diced onion with a pinch of salt for 5-6 minutes until soft.
-
Add 2 chopped garlic cloves and cook for 2 minutes.
-
Stir in 100 g/ 3½oz of grated carrot.
3.Make the Sauce:
-
Return the beef (with its juices) to the pan.
-
Add 2 tins of chopped tomatoes and 400ml/ 14fl oz stock.
-
Stir well, bring to a simmer, then cook gently for 45 minutes until thick and rich.
4. Cook the Spaghetti:
-
Boil a large pot of salted water.
-
Cook 400g/14 oz of dried spaghetti according to the packet instructions.
-
Drain and mix with the sauce.
5.Serve & Enjoy:
-
Top with grated cheese and fresh herbs if you like.
